Teach:
The On Location curriculum will take you through all the steps to help you brainstorm, plan, shoot, and edit a documentary that will feature an artist or arts group in your community.

This curriculum is designed for upper elementary and middle school grades (grades 6-8). It combines language arts, media arts, drama, and technology into a comprehensive learning experience using hands-on activities as students create the story (based in factual research) and then learn and apply the technical skills of media production.

There are four main sections to the curriculum: Story Development, Pre-Production, Production, and Post-Production. The exercises and tools will help you and your students create an engaging documentary that will tell a story of the arts in your community.

Focus On Arts-Centered Learning

  • think critically and creatively,
  • communicate effectively, and
  • work collaboratively

—all key 21st Century skills
that prepare young people for
the real world.
